Maartje van Proosdij

I design with a focus on people and interactions

Picture

Hi!

I’m Maartje van Proosdij, an industrial designer and design researcher with a focus on people and interactions. I am a highly motivated, enthusiastic and emphatic graduate in Industrial Design Engineering at the TU Delft, with an aptitude for working in a team as well as individually. While studying I gained work experience as a designer and design consultant in a design agency. I am now looking for a stimulating and challenging position in a research & design agency with a focus on social design.

During my thesis I developed an expertise in the relation between sex and gender, and design. Through this project I have gained a new perspective on what it can mean to design in an inclusive way, and have become even more passionate about inclusive and meaningful design projects.

For work opportunities, or a chat about (gender)inclusive design, feel free to contact me at mproosdij@outlook.com

A project about gender bias in design

Why does voice recognition software work better for men?  Why are public diaper changing tables mostly located in the women’s toilets? Why is driving a car much less safe for women compared to men? This is the result of gender bias in design. This project explores this phenomenon.

Elevator awkwardness

A project about... awkwardness
in the elevator
Do you feel awkward and self-aware when using an elevator with strangers? You're not the only one. From awkward greetings to dead silence, pressing the wrong button to being stared at through the mirror, everyone has had some awkward experiences inside this little steel box. What makes riding the elevator so uncomfortable? How can we make this experience more enjoyable? This project explores these questions.
